Carneddau Guidelines

Welcome to Carneddau Base Camp Guidelines. By making a booking, accessing the site or staying with us, we highly recommend you read through our guidelines carefully before your visit.

1. Off-Grid & Water Policy

Carneddau Base Camp is a primitive, off-grid wild camping experience. There is no mains water, borehole water, spring water, filtration system or washing water available anywhere on the site.

By booking your stay, you acknowledge that you are fully responsible for bringing sufficient potable water for drinking, cooking, washing and any medical needs throughout your visit.

Natural streams and waterways on or around the site are untreated and must not be used for drinking or food preparation.

Carneddau Base Camp, its landowners and operators accept no liability for illness, injury or other issues arising from inadequate water supplies or the consumption of untreated natural water.

2. Working Farm & Livestock Safety

Carneddau Base Camp is located on a rural working farm in Gwynedd, neighbouring active agricultural land where sheep, cattle and horses may be present.

Please respect livestock and leave all gates exactly as you find them. Preventing animals from escaping is the responsibility of every visitor.

Dogs are welcome but must remain on a short lead at all times. Under UK law, farmers are legally permitted to protect livestock from dogs that are worrying or chasing animals. Carneddau Base Camp accepts no liability for incidents arising from dogs not being kept under control.

You access the site and surrounding farm tracks at your own risk.

3. Preparing for Your Stay

To help you enjoy a safe and comfortable stay, we recommend arriving with the following equipment:

✔ At least 5 litres of drinking water per person, per day

✔ A self-contained portable or cassette toilet

✔ Heavy-duty rubbish bags to take all waste home

✔ A gas, petrol or diesel camping stove for cooking

✔ A fully stocked first aid kit

✔ A fully charged mobile phone or satellite communication device

✔ Suitable recovery equipment if travelling in challenging weather conditions

✔Appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear suitable for mountain environments

Although the access track to our pilot site can be accessed by many vehicles in suitable conditions, weather and ground conditions can change quickly. Please ensure your vehicle is suitable for the conditions before travelling.

4. Leave No Trace

Help us preserve this beautiful landscape by leaving the site exactly as you found it.

Please take home all rubbish, recycling, food waste and toilet waste. There are currently no waste disposal facilities available on site.

Respect the natural environment, minimise your impact and help us keep Carneddau Base Camp wild for future visitors.

5. Fires & Cooking

Ground campfires are not permitted due to the risk of wildfire and damage to the surrounding landscape.

Guests are welcome to use self-contained camping stoves or fully raised fire pits, provided they do not scorch or damage the ground.

Please ensure all cooking equipment is fully extinguished before leaving it unattended.

6. Vehicles & Access

The access track and camping areas are natural agricultural terrain, with a maximum entrance width of 8ft through our gates.

While the pilot site can be accessed by many vehicles in favourable conditions, a 4x4 or higher-clearance vehicle is strongly recommended, particularly during wet weather.

It is your responsibility to assess whether your vehicle is suitable for the conditions before entering the site.

All vehicles enter and remain on site entirely at the owner's risk. Carneddau Base Camp accepts no responsibility for vehicle damage, recovery costs or breakdowns.
